28 And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient; (Romans 1:28 KJV)
The reason someone would not want to retain God in their knowledge is they do not want their conscience to be convicting them of their sins. A person can get to the point of rejecting Godís conviction of their sins, and by continuing to sin, they can get to where they feel no conviction or remorse when they do sin. Many Christians have worried that they have offended God, and became reprobate, but as long as you regret sinning against God, it shows that you have not reached that point; as if you had you would not feel any remorse in sinning.
It is a very serious condition to become reprobate, as that means
there is no longer any way that you can ever again have a chance to be saved
(Hebrews 6:4-6). The bible teaches that you can only come to God when His
Spirit draws you to Him (John 6:44), and there is a point you can reach that the
Spirit will give up on you and you will become reprobate (Genesis 6:3). The
only way you can be reprobate is to have God give up on you, or after you become
a mature Christian, you could renounce your salvation, or commit blasphemy
against the Holy Ghost (Matthew 12:31-32), or disobey Jesus (Hebrews 5:9). In
either case you are doomed to hell at that point. I pray that no Christian ever
reaches that point. Praise God for His forbearance.
