Daily Devotional

September 19

10 Wherefore the rather, brethren, give diligence to make your calling and election sure: for if ye do these things, ye shall never fall: 11 For so an entrance shall be ministered unto you abundantly into the everlasting kingdom of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. - 2 Peter 1:10-11 (KJV)

Peter has been talking about the necessity to live holy and stay in faith to insure our salvation is complete.  We need to exhibit the fruit of the Spirit (Galatians 5:22-23) in our lives, by the way we live, and let Christ live through us.  The word translated “sure” in this verse means stable, and we need to lead a stable life for Christ by always walking after the Spirit, and letting our light shine through our actions (Matthew 5:16).  If we do our best to live a holy life for Jesus, we will make our salvation stable, and know that we will please our Lord and glorify our Father (1 Peter 1:15).

Even though our salvation is a gift from God (Romans 6:23), we must commit ourselves to God (Romans 12:1), and renew our minds by studying the bible (Romans 12:2), so that we will be strong in our faith, as that is what pleases God (Hebrews 11:6).  This verse and many others, tell us that you can be saved and then lose it, by not trying to live for Jesus.  It all boils down to, you can’t just be born again, and then not enter into a close relationship with Jesus and the Father, as that is the purpose of our salvation, which is everlasting life (John 17:3).  It takes more then just believing in Jesus, as if you truly get to know the Father and Son, then you will want to live holy, as He is holy (1 Peter 1:16).  If you are truly born again, God will place His desires into your heart, then He will give you the desires of your heart (Psalms 37:4), and you will be so very content and happy to serve Him in all you do.  You must obey Jesus to assure your eternal salvation (Hebrews 5:9).  Thank you Lord for our gift of salvation.
