7 For none of us liveth to himself, and no man dieth to himself. 8 For whether we live, we live unto the Lord; and whether we die, we die unto the Lord: whether we live therefore, or die, we are the Lord's. 9 For to this end Christ both died, and rose, and revived, that he might be Lord both of the dead and living. - Romans 14:7-9 (KJV)
Paul has been teaching us to not condemn the weak brother (Romans 14:1-6), as even though we know that doing the works of the law, like observing certain days, etc., are no longer necessary, we should not look down on those that do so. It all depends on our heart attitude when we observe certain Old Testament laws, as if we do it to try and earn righteousness before God, then it is works of the law, and should not be done. If we do the same observance of a day, just as a day set aside for the Lord, to honor and worship Him, then it is done out of love, and is a work of faith, not law. The reason behind what we do is all important to God.
No matter what we do, whether in living or dying, we should do so for the Lord, as when we are born again, we become the Lords, and we need to do all things for Him. If we keep the Lord as the focus of all our actions, and keep His Words in us (Romans 12:2), then we will be walking after the Spirit, and living a holy life for the Lord, as all Christians should. Not out of obligation, but out of love for the Lord. Christ died for us, and rose again for us as the Father wanted, so that we would belong to Him, both in life and death. If we live for Him in this life, then we will be with Him in eternity, as that is what is promised those who believe. Salvation is simple as all you have to do is believe in Jesus to be saved (Acts 16:31). Praise the Lord for making our salvation so simple.
