Daily Devotional

June 16

3 For what the law could not do, in that it was weak through the flesh, God sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, and for sin, condemned sin in the flesh: 4 That the righteousness of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit. - Romans 8:3-4 (KJV)

There was nothing wrong with the Old Testament law, as it was perfect in all ways (Romans 7:12), and shows us what God’s standards are. The problem was that man (flesh) could not keep the law, as our righteousness was as filthy rags (Isaiah 64:6) to God, and we could not fulfill the requirements of the law on our own. No human ever became righteous through the keeping of the law, except one – Jesus Christ (Matthew 5:17). He kept the law and was sinless (1 Peter 2:22), therefore He became the perfect sacrifice for us, and paid for all our sins (Romans 6:23). So Jesus did for us, what we could not do for ourselves – Praise God.

Since Jesus had no sin, and earned righteousness under the law, by keeping all of it, He fulfilled all the requirements of righteousness. Jesus then became our sacrifice, so that through Him we might partake of His righteousness (2 Corinthians 5:21). Us humans were so destitute that we had to have a Savior to bring us back into fellowship, which is eternal life, with our Creator (John 17:3). What love our Heavenly Father has for us, that He would send His only Son to die in our place, just so that He could fellowship with us again (John 3:16). This truly shows that God is love (1 John 4:8), and He loves us for that reason, and not because we are lovely. Praise God for His wonderful love for us.
