Baptism of Jesus

July 8, 2013 - Revelation given by the Holy Spirit:

Zacharias and Elizabeth were the parents of John the Baptist, who mightily prepared the way for Jesus. I believe it was very important that Zacharias was a priest, and that Elizabeth was of the daughters of Aaron (Luke 1:5-6), as that made John the Baptist of the Royal line of Old Testament priests. When John then baptized Jesus (Luke 3:21-22), it signaled the beginning of Jesus ministry, the Holy Ghost came upon Jesus, and God spoke from heaven, announcing Jesus as His Son. It also set a precedent for all born again believers to be baptized in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Ghost (Matthew 28:19), so that they can receive the power of the Holy Ghost at baptism.

Also, I believe, that Zacharias and Elizabeth, being righteous before God, and of the priesthood, is what enabled John the Baptist to baptize Jesus, and caused the priesthood to change from the line of Aaron, to the priesthood of Melchizedek (Psalm 110:4). It was prophesized that Jesus would be of the line of Melchizedek, and I believe that the priesthood changed when John baptized Jesus. The significance of Jesus being baptized was to accomplish a lot more then symbolic, as Jesus did not need it for repentance, as He was sinless, so I believe that it represented much more, and this is just some of what happened at that time. Praise God for the Holy Ghost to help us to understand His Word.
